Raising awareness from an early age: a memory game to bring children's rights to life

At our daycare, every educational activity is designed to support the overall development of young children and respect their fundamental rights. Although often referred to as a daycare center in research, our facility is distinguished by an active and educational approach that places the needs and rights of the child at the center of every activity. With this in mind, we have implemented a fun activity: a memory game (memo) based on pictograms representing children's rights.

Learning through play

Designed for children ages 2 to 4, this game uses simple, clear images. Children are invited to find pairs of identical pictograms, each image being associated with a fundamental right—such as the right to rest, the right to be protected, or the right to express their opinion.

This visual memory exercise stimulates their attention while creating a bridge to understanding abstract concepts. We take the time to explain each image using simple, age-appropriate words. It's a first step toward self-awareness, respect for others, and each person's place in the community.

Participatory and inclusive pedagogy

The emphasis is on children's active participation: by interacting with the images, they learn to express their opinions, listen to others, and cooperate. This type of activity directly reflects the educational principles established by the Luxembourg National Youth Service in the document "Children's Rights in Non-Formal Education." In particular, we integrate:

  • The pillar of participation : allowing the child to express himself and actively contribute.

  • The right to quality education : through age-appropriate, clear and visual tools.

  • The best interests of the child : at the heart of each activity, respected in the pace and needs of each individual.

A personalized and scalable approach

Following this first approach, we even planned to create personalized pictograms with images of the children themselves, in order to strengthen their involvement and self-recognition in the activity.

An activity to help you grow... and choose your nursery

More than just a game, this activity reflects our daily commitment to bringing children's rights to life in the daycare environment. It's concrete proof of our caring and inclusive teaching approach.
